Roozbeh Kiani, New York University, received a 2022 Troland Research Award.
Kiani has made seminal contributions to our understanding of decision-making processes. By deploying an artful combination of theory, experiment, and computational analysis, he has advanced our knowledge of the neural mechanisms underlying decision confidence and hierarchical strategies for decision-making.
His innovative work studies the neural circuits that enable us to make decisions and flexibly adjust behavior. His research includes examining large-scale neuronal recordings from the prefrontal cortex, discovering spatially segregated “subnetworks” that represent different components of the decision-making process.
Two Troland Research Awards of $75,000 are given annually to recognize unusual achievement by early-career researchers (preferably 45 years of age or younger) and to further empirical research within the broad spectrum of experimental psychology. The Troland Research Award was established by a trust created in 1931 by the bequest of Leonard T. Troland.
