Biosketch
Donald G. Truhlar was born in Chicago. He received a B.A. in Chemistry from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota (1965) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Caltech (1970). In 1969 he joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota, where he is currently Regents Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Physics. Reserch includes theoretical and computational chemical dynamics and quantum mechanics. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Chemical Society, American Physical Society, Chemical Research Society of India (honorary), Chinese Chemical Society (honorary), Royal Society of Chemistry, and World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists. Honors include ACS Award for Computers in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Research, ACS Minnesota Award, ACS Peter Debye Award for Physical Chemistry, ACS Award in Theoretical Chemistry, APS Earle K. Plyler Prize for Molecular Spectroscopy and Dynamics, NAS Award for Scientific Reviewing, RSC Chemical Dynamics Award, WATOC Schrödinger medal, Dudley R. Herschbach Award for Molecular Collision Dynamics, Distinguished Alumnus Award of St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, and Doctor honoris causa of Technical University of Lodz.

Chemical dynamics; photochemistry; quantum mechanics; density functional theory; pair-density functional theory; collisions in high-enthalpy air; magnetic properties.
