Biosketch
Richard Aslin received his B.A. in Psychology from Michigan State University (1971) and his Ph.D. in Child Psychology from the University of Minnesota (1975). He was on the Psychology faculty at Indiana University from 1975-1984 and at the University of Rochester (Psychology; Brain & Cognitive Sciences) from 1984-2017. He is now a Distinguished Senior Scientist at Haskins Laboratories and Yale University (Psychology and Child Study Center).
Research Interests
Aslin's research is concerned with how human infants develop knowledge about their world, with an emphasis on language learning. He uses both behavioral and neuroimaging methods to study what infants know and how distributions of information shape their knowledge via implicit learning mechanisms. His recent work employs machine-learning techniques to assess patterns of brain activity that are correlated with mental representations.
