Although the Environmentalists and the Democrats want to get rid of fossil fuels, there is an underlining desire to make money. The people that have investment in the alternative energy are counting on the government to make fossil fuels more expensive so that they can make more profit. Some of the so-called Green Energies put out more carbon than fossil fuels, but the green energy may release carbon directly or indirectly. The Environmentalists and the Democrats want to switch from fossil fuels to green sources, but the Green sources have to be ready available as well as having a distribution system which are at least 20 years away. It is foolish to say just do it, but that is how the Democrats want it.
Until an alternative energy source is readily available, fossil fuel will be needed. In some industries fossil fuels shall needed to provide the necessary safety, energy, and time requirements. But for the crude oil and natural gas has only about 50 to 150 years before the sources will not be able to keep up with demand. So, this is to explain how to manage our fossil fuel reserves until a replacement is widely available.
Our Current Energy Sources and Recommendation
Crude Oil
Although many people believe that the carbon in crude oil is the biggest problem the world is facing, it is not. Fossil fuel and carbon is explained in my “Climate Change a Disaster, Lies, and a Con Job All Rolled Into One”
- Crude oil may last another 50 years (if that long) before the amount that can be pumped is less than the demand. This is an educated guess, because most major producer of crude oil keep the oil reserves as a national secret. But by looking at what a country is currently producing, and the amount of oil presently producing, several countries appear to be in the end of production phase. The oil will not stop, but at full pumping, the oil pumped will be less than the year before it. If a major new source of crude can be found, crude oil may last another 150 years before demand outpaces supply.
- Crude oil needs to be saved for four sectors.
- Military (the military needs to move at a moment notice, waiting for electric vehicles to charge will not be acceptable.)
- Plastic (we need crude oil to make plastic. The bioplastic faces the same problems as biofuels)
- Lubricants
- Airline industry
- If crude old prices become too expensive, the world economy will slow down, so a balancing act is needed to keep the crude oil flowing but not to let it get too costly. Many people are worried about an oil spill, or gas leak. The potential for these problems to occur can be drastically reduced. One of the major problems is that most of the effort goes into preventing an accident. We should also put attention on where accidents can happen and ways to reduce the impact of the accident if it does happen. If you take the Gulf oil spill, there were multiple times that an action could have prevented the accident or reduced the effects.
- How do we handle Crude Oil?

- How do we handle Crude Oil
- Oil Platforms at sea are the greatest risk to the environment so the following shall be implemented.
- The senior person in the control room, shall have full authority to shut down operations.
- The person shall use the following as guide to determine if a shutdown is required.
- If any communications are not functioning properly, operations shall be shut down.
- If any emergency equipment is not fully functioning, operations shall be shut down.
- If any sensor indicates there is an issue, the operations shall be shut down until a though investigation on the sensor is done.
- If any major equipment is not functioning properly, operations shall be shut down.
- Only authorized personal can sign off the repairs and allow for normal operation.
- The well head shall have at least 3 ways to close the well head.
- A signal shall be sent to the well head, if that signal is broken for more than 3 seconds, the well head will shut down.
- A pneumatic way of shutting down the well head shall be installed in the well head.
- A manual shutdown shall be the third way of shutting down the well head.
- If the well head is shut down, then only the most senior person has the authority to re-open the well head.
- The person to shut down the well head or override the shutdown procedures can be held for criminal charges if anyone or the environment is damages by their actions / non-actions.
- The person making the decisions shall use the following to help them.
- Prevention the loss of life or injury to personnel.
- Protect the environment.
- Protect the equipment
- Protect companies’ profits.
- Oil pipelines
- Pipelines are the best way to transport crude oil. Once an oil lease is sold, a pipeline has been suggested to be pre-authorized.
- Oil pipelines that cross area that must be protected shall have storage facilities build on each side of the protected area that can hold 3X the amount of oil that is in the pipeline.
- Sensors shall be placed along the pipeline, and if a problem is detected the pipeline shall be shut down automatically.
- For the pipeline that runs through protected areas, high speed pumps will pump the crude oil out of the pipeline and stored in the holding tanks.
- If there is a break in the pipeline in a protected area, the high-speed pumps shall pull the oil and any contaminated water that might be near the pipeline breach.
- The person making the decisions shall use the following to help them.
- Prevention the loss of life or injury to personnel.
- Protect the environment.
- Protect the equipment
- Protect companies’ profits.
- Oil Refineries
- Most oil refineries already have extensive safety precautions in place, but there are some improvements.
- If any major equipment is not functioning properly, operations shall be shut down for that part of the oil refinery.
- Only authorized personal can sign off the repairs and allow for normal operation.
- The person making the decisions shall use the following to help them.
- Prevention the loss of life or injury to personnel.
- Protect the environment.
- Protect the equipment
- Protect companies’ profits.
Biofuel
- We have the time to switch from crude oil on the non-critical sectors before the crude oil starts to get limited.
- Biofuel is a fool’s effort.
- Estimates are that we save only a little energy at best, or at worst, we expend more energy producing Biofuel than Biofuel provides. (See Biofuel explanation “Green Energy is Not Green”.)
- It takes over 25 lbs. of corn to make gallon of ethanol.
- It takes about 300 lbs. of corn to make one gallon of corn oil.
- In 2021, over 250,000 children died from starvation, in part or largely because the United States is burning the grain that would be used for food.
- If you add the carbon spent on preparing the soil, planting, watering, putting pesticides down, putting weed killer down, harvesting, storage, converting the grain to biofuel, and transporting the biofuel, at best, we have a slight gain in the energy produced to the energy used, and at worst we have a lot more energy used than produced.
- Also, for every tank of biofuel used, 4 poor people starve to death. The world does not produce enough food for everyone. In 100 years, the human population is expected to double, where are we going to get the food if we turn food into fuel.
- Because of the same restrictions do not apply for corn that will be used for people or animal consumption, chemicals and pesticides are applied in such great amounts, the material from the corn that is left over is classified as a hazardous waste.
- Instead of corn for ethanol, we can use maple seeds. Maple seeds are abundant, and some federal money would be needed to collect the maple seeds since it has never been done before. The federal funding should be less than the corn subsidies, and we should be able to get more seeds per acre than corn.
- For biodiesel, peach pits can be used. The United States cans a lot of peaches, and the kernel is made up of about 50% oil. The remainder of the peach pit from the oil extraction process, can be used in an incinerator that produces electricity.
- Even if we convert every plant into a biofuel, we will not have enough to biofuel to replace the crude oil.
- Burning 100% biofuels is dirtier than burning the 100% fossil fuels which is why E85 is sold. E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.
Natural Gas
Natural gas is also limited, even more limited than crude oil, so it would be a band-aid solution at best. So, we are not going to discuss this issue.
Hydrogen
- Currently, hydrogen is impractical to be used. Hydrogen needs storage facilities that are extremely cold, and hydrogen is extremely flammable. The storage facility for hydrogen must either use large amounts of energy to keep the hydrogen cold, or the hydrogen needs to be vented to relieve the pressure that will build up because the hydrogen is getting warmer just by sitting.
- For now, hydrogen requires more energy to make it than the hydrogen has when it is used. It is currently impractical to use.
Batteries
- The Average 12V car battery weights 41lbs, but the smallest lithium battery for an electric car needs a battery that weighs at least 500 lbs., but many electric cars need over a 1000 lbs. Other materials will make the battery weigh several times more than the lithium battery to get the same power.
- You cannot recycle the lithium in a lithium-ion battery. You can recycle the other metals, but the recycling process lose 30% of these metals in the recycling process.
- China controls 90% of the world’s lithium supply.
- If only half the cars in the world went electric, it would consume 80% of the know lithium supply.
- Lithium is found mostly in arid or desert environment. It can take over 500 gallons of water to get one pound of lithium. Water is used to dissolve the lithium salts, bring the lithium to the surface, and then the water must evaporate to leave behind the lithium salts. Water is the most precious resource in the arid / desert environments.
- In a lawsuit, hybrid car models got less gas milage than a compared gasoline model within 2 to 4 years.
- Lithium is not the wonder that many people think it is.
- There is a possibility for batter use and that is the Iron-Air battery. The Iron-Air batter can hold as much energy as a Lithium-ion battery, but the problem is the rust in the recharging. If this problem can be solved, Iron-Air batteries can be used. If the problem with the rust can be solved, Iron-Air batteries can replace the Lithium-Ion battery. But you are looking at 20 years before they can be commonplace, and wildly used.
Coal
Coal is almost considered to be taboo because of the carbon it releases, but that is not the only problem, there is the soot and ash. The soot is so fine that it gives the people breathing problems. The ash contains toxic chemicals.
- The soot can be collected by scrubbers and added to concreate. The soot makes the concreate harder. This also locks the toxic chemicals in the concreate.
- The ash can also be combined with concreate. I can’t find information on the properties of concreate when the ash is added it.
- Coal can be converted to oil and gasoline, but this process is not very efficient so it is unlikely that this process will be used unless it has to be used.
- As crude oil begins where the supply cannot keep up the demand. Coal will be an alternative energy source.
- Because the world is beyond the 2.5°C as mentioned in “Climate Change a Disaster, Lies, and a Con Job All Rolled Into One”, the damage is already done.
- At least shipping will have to use coal. Oil, batteries, and nuclear power will not be able to be used in commercial shipping. Oil will be running low, and batteries would take a larger section of a cargo ship, reducing the amount of goods being able to be ship and increasing cost. The security risk of nuclear power if terrorist take over a ship that has nuclear power is frightening.
